Josef Franks printed pattern “Navigare” (Navigate) with sailing ship in squares and rounding against brown bottom. National museum has several of Josef Frank’s textile patterns in the collections. “Navigare” designed by Josef Frank as a tribute to Estrid Ericson’s husband Captain Sigfrid Ericson. Countless times Sigfrid brought the ship m / s Gripsholm into the New York harbor, just as the beautiful vessel is seen in the central image field of the pattern. Around eight ships from previous centuries are heading towards their destinations. It was at m / s Gripsholm that Estrid and Sigfrid met for the first time. The pattern was used to printed in blue, but in green and brown are extremely rare. A design by Josef Frank always bears the designer’s decorative signature of whimsy and warmth.
