1990s Fernando and Humberto Campana Brothers Vermelha Arm Chair by Edra in Gold

Unique and iconic arm chair designed by the renowned Brazilian designers, Fernando and Humberto Campana, and made in Italy by Edra. This chair is made of metallic gold cord, iron and aluminum. The Vermelha lounge chair is included in the permanent collections of several museums including New York’s Museum of Modern Art and Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum. Unmarked.

This is a wrap-around armchair with steel frame. An innovative chair, created by the overlapping of hundreds of twists of a special rope with acrylic core, on the base frame. 500 meters of rope are needed to create the volume of the chair. The casing is woven directly onto the structure of painted tubular steel, which in turn is secured to the legs of solid aluminum. Subsequent layers of twine create a sort of padding. The ability of experienced hands to weave this rope with acrylic core and cotton cover is fundamental. It takes more
than forty-five hours of work just for the weaving.
