Model 840. Made of noble wood for its shelf, the desk is the perfect modernist element of great Italian design. Its countertop features clean, sharp lines with thick geometric shapes. Through its elevation, it is possible to best position each element in the desk.
Its single pedestal designed legs are made of very solid painted metal that supports the entire structure. The desk is a great piece of Italian modernist design, perfect for collectors and important living rooms.

Wood, metal frame legs.

Provenance: Cansado, Mauritania (Africa).

In original condition, with wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina.

Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999) she was born in Paris in 1903 and attended the E´cole de l’Union centrale des Arts de´coratifs from 1920-1925. Charlotte Perriand designed furniture made of anodized aluminium and chromium-plated steel, showing it at the 1927 “Salon d’Automne” in Paris.
After meeting Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand worked with him and Pierre Jeanneret until 1937. The revolutionary tubular steel furnishings and system furniture designed by the three were presented as “E´quipement de l’habitation” (home equipment) at the 1929 “Salon d’Automne,” where they were widely acclaimed.
In 1930 the Union Des Artistes Modernes (UAM) was founded in Paris, a group that viewed itself as a countermovement challenging such establishment organizations as the “Salon d’Automne” and also advocated Art Deco and Modernism. From 1931 Charlotte Perriand showed her own work solo there. In 1937 Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret collaborated on designing a mountain chalet of sheet aluminium, which they showed at the “Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne” and later they came up with plans for prefab houses made of aluminium.
In 1940 Charlotte Perriand became a design consultant to the Japanese Board of Trade. She lived in Japan until 1946 and from then on Charlotte Perriand’s designs reveal overtones of the Japanese feeling for form, as shown by the 1953 chair “Synthe`se des Arts.”.

The desk through its shapes and lines is very reminiscent of Gio Ponti’s design line. The desk is made by the Vigorelli ( of Pavia) manufactory. The small desk has in the left side five pull-out drawers and the top one has a key. In the right leg we have a door that can be opened by knob with the sewing machine mechanism inside. At the base we find a cast-iron riser that allowed easy movement of the mechanism by foot pedals. The table top rises and through a mechanism retracts inside the desk allowing the sewing machine to be pulled out. Once the top is raised we find another storage compartment that allows the sewing machine to be pulled out. The sewing machine is still intact but the thread mechanism needs to be fixed because it is now worn.
Being transformable the desk is excellent both as a writing table but also as a piece of furniture for designer living rooms.

The desk is made in the frame entirely of fine, light-coloured wood.
The legs supporting the structure are long, cylindrical in shape. The two rear ones are thicker, to support the weight of the structure; the front ones are thinner, a not inconsiderable touch of style!
Immediately above the legs we see a smooth top made of beautiful wood, which creates a very beautiful and useful compartment. Above this top we see a glass top, attached to the frame with two brass mechanisms in the original patina of the time, very beautiful.
The glass shelf at the back shows an elegant wooden panel painted with a mix pattern typical of the period. Very exuberant. Centrally on the wooden top there is a small, clearly visible drawer for storing documents or useful objects for writing.
The desk is suitable for exuberant study rooms.

(Atelier de Recherches Plastiques) and manufactured by Minvielle, France 1955. Studio A.R.P. was an association between three talented designers; Pierre Guariche, Joseph-André Motte and Michel Mortier. They all met during their experience at the agency A.R.H.E.C of Marcel Gascoin, at the same time a meeting point place but above all a training place of the first French designers. This desk is an outcome of that group of designers who sticked their hease together. Where every designer had their own part in the design, construction wise, material wise, aesthetic wise. This desk has a solid steel frame, painted in black. The metal frame has as a very appealing line play. From all angles the desk appears to have a different form. The plywood top has a blue laminated finish which is very typical for the period of time, laminate was just discovered and applied a lot on furniture of that period, it was strong and durable. The desk is in fantastic condition. Published in several important French design books.

The desk is constructed from premium rosewood, characterized by its rich color and beautiful natural grains.

With its clean lines and timeless aesthetic, this desk exudes elegance and functionality. The slim tabletop offers ample space for work or study, and its smooth surface highlights the natural beauty of the wood.

The desk features four drawers integrated into the structure, providing convenient storage space for office supplies, documents, and other necessities. The handles on the drawers are likely made of wood or metal and are designed with both aesthetics and functionality in mind.

Details such as rounded corners and elegant legs contribute to the desk’s stylish expression and create a harmonious balance between form and function. This combination of aesthetics and functionality is characteristic of midcentury design philosophy, which aims to unite beauty with usability.

This desk is not just a piece of furniture, but also a work of art that represents an era of Danish furniture craftsmanship. It encapsulates the essence of midcentury design with its simple yet sophisticated expression and excellent craftsmanship. A desk like this is not only a practical furniture piece but also an investment in both style and history.

The desk is very unusual in shape, creating a very striking playful effect.
The legs supporting the desk are four in a classic rectangular shape; the legs are joined two by two in a maple wood structure that seems to create a painting easel-like structure. This is what you notice when you look at the legs, which narrow from wide as they get closer together.
Centrally we notice a massive structure, suitable for storing documents and desk utilities. We have two very useful side drawers. The entire central structure is made using the grissin technique.
We go further up to find a very beautiful and perfect sturdy glass top, framed by maple wood.
The desk is perfect as a mid-century piece of furniture, suitable for study areas.
